Senior Citizens Services Announces Appointment of New Board Members

 

The Board of Directors of Senior Citizens Services (SCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of three new board members for 2010 – 2011: Katie Crane, Audrey Goldberg, and Robert Mitchell.

SCS 2010-2011 Board Officers are: Clint Jones, president; Ginni Boyd and Ola Anise, vice presidents; Roma Hanks, secretary; Ben Meisler, treasurer; and Richard Dorman, past president. Long-standing Board Members are: Donna Ballard, Norman Berger, Shawn Blair, Dana Carter, Harold Collins, Katie Crane, Randy Fausak, Tim Gaston, Jani Handwerger, Yvonne King, Michael Maitre Jr., Arlene Mitchell, Grey Redditt Jr., Bill Shanahan, Nancy Sledge, Selwyn Turner III, and Cathy Wagner.

The mission of SCS is to promote a healthy, active, independent lifestyle among adults. SCS operates the Via programs, located at 1717 Dauphin Street in Mobile.

“Cork in the Courtyard” Fundraiser Scheduled


May 13, 2010, is the date set for “Corks in the Courtyard,” the newest fundraiser benefitting Senior Citizens Services and the Via programs. Co-chaired by Katie Crane and Clint Jones, the event promises a fun evening for everyone attending. It features live music by Roman Street, wine tasting, heavy hors d’oeuvres and the opportunity to mix and mingle. It will be held at The Wine Loft, 9 Du Rhu Drive in Mobile from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. Before May 3, tickets are only $25 – and after that date, they are $35. “Bingo Babes” Enjoy Weekly Get-togethers at Via!

 

Affectionately known as the “Bingo Babes” at the Via Health Fitness and Enrichment Center, four ladies, ages 90 and older, have been getting together weekly for 14 years to enjoy a spirited afternoon of bingo. It’s hard to tell which they enjoy more … each other’s company …or playing bingo!  There’s no shortage of laughter with these four around.

Bingo is offered on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Via Health, Fitness and Enrichment Center for anyone 21 and older.  For more information, please call 478-3311.

Special Rates Available at Via, Health, Fitness & Enrichment for a Limited Time Only  - Extended due to overwhelming response!


Through April 15, 2010, new fitness members joining Via Health, Fitness and Enrichment Center are being offered a “limited time only” special membership rate. In addition, these new members will receive three complimentary personal training sessions to use within 90 days of joining. New member rates are as follows: Age 50 and older -- $120 for a year; and age 21-49 -- $180 for a year.

The Via Center has a state-of-the-art fitness facility and also offers a variety of classes and activities to adults of all ages. These include yoga, tai chi, dancefit, clogging, line dancing, SilverSneakers®, stability ball, boot camp, badminton, pickleball and many more!
